Red ANDI América Latina
Latin America is the most unequal region in the world. The situation of the boys, girls and adolescents is often not reported by the media. Plan believes in the importance of overcoming the silence about the situations that vulnerate the children’s rights and the obstacles that do not let their voices heard.
An adequate coverage and increasingly qualified information are two of the priorities that Plan was striving for when joined ANDI Latin America Network. Our goal is to contribute to the development of journalism culture in which children’s rights is the priority.
Plan shares ANDI’s initiative to make effective the rights of the children as the base of the human development and social equity. In this task, mass media has a key role.
ANDI Network Latin American was borne 13 years ago in Brazil. From 1996 to 2004, ANDI monitored the information coverage related to children and adolescents, issued by 45 newspapers in Brazil. The result of this study is today represented by an increment of the 1100 percent of related topics about children and adolescents.
Plan believes that the media has impact in building fair and inclusive societies. When audiences are growing in quantity and well informed, they promote the defence and protection of the rights of the children.
